Interview Techniques

The interview can be a tough experience to look forward to. Just follow these interview tips and you should be OK.

Preparing for the interview

It's no good going to any interview unprepared. You should know exactly what job you are being interviewed for, why you want that job, the name of the person who is going to interview you and some basics about the company you are being interviewed for.

The day of the interview

On the day of the interview ensure you leave in plenty of time to get to your destination - you simply cannot be late - not even 5 minutes. Arrive 10 minutes early and no more.

Dress smartly. You need to make a lasting impression amongst all the other interview candidates. Guys, wear a conservative suit and tie in grey or blue. Girls, if you have a suit then wear it - if not something very smart. Ensure your shoes are polished and your hair is in good shape.

Nasty interview questions

Any interview is time so both parties get to know about each other. Make sure you have answers to the following:

  • Why do you want this job
  • Why do you want to work for our company
  • How will our company benefit from your experience
  • What are your strengths (same as the above)
  • What are your weaknesses (but turn your answer into a strength)
  • How you any questions for us (do not ask about money - ever)

    Stay cool

If you are a nervous person then ask a friend to interview you beforehand and practice your answers. Even if you don't get the first job you go for every interview is very good experience so you know what to do next time.

There are always people that get turned down. If you do, try to find out why so you don't make the same mistake twice.

    Good luck
